What caught my attention in week thirty, 2023
In continuation to week twenty-nine, here are a few thoughts and things that caught my attention in week thirty, 2023:
- 🤒 My oldest son had just recovered from COVID-19 when, all of a sudden, I found myself down with what seemed like a summer cold (not COVID) - severe sore throat, a lot of nasal congestion, and some coughing - since mid-week. I had a few days off and had planned to re-spoke my son's rear wheel and do some enjoyable things. However, fate had other plans. To top it all off, we had to pick up our youngest two days after he left for a summer trip, as he had broken a metacarpal bone. It wasn't exactly the best week for us.
- 🚶♂️ Therefore only 45 km by bike and 51 km, including 25 km with the dog, by foot.
- 😢 Sinéad O'Connor passed away. Her music accompanied me very strongly during my youth.
- ❌ I finally deleted my twitter account. I had already switched my account to private and removed all followers some time ago.
- 🔗 I find it lovely that a few people, such as Michael, William, Alex, and thatkruegergirl, have started blogrolls on their websites. It's a very nice way to reference the many small, individual sites, mainly from the omg.lol and micro.blog community. I really want to do the same.
- 🗿 Obsidian Desktop (Catalyst) was updated to 1.4 and brought Properties with it: A simple and durable way to add tags, aliases, dates, and other metadata to your notes. Nicole van der Hoeven published a nice video about it.
- 👨💻 Speaking of YouTube videos, I watched "I tried MacOS for 1.5 years. Here’s what I learned" and in my arrogant way, I thought, "What can I possibly learn from someone who has been using macOS for only 1.5 years when I've been using it for over 17 years?" Well, I learned something (about myself and about macOS).
- 📝 Thanks to BBEdit's multi file search, Regex, and a Python script, the latter created with the help of ChatGPT, I managed to bring my diary entries from Evernote, Apple Notes, DayOne, as well as many other apps from the last decades into a uniform format and added YAML front matter for Obsidian. Now, I have 5,100 new entries in my calendar section. Having all of this as uniform text files feels somehow satisfying. (My daily shortcut, which gathers all possible info and exports it to Obsidian as a Daily Note, also still copies the text to DayOne. I'm keeping that for now and will have to reconsider replacing it or not at some point.)
- ⌨️ There was CheatSheet, there is KeyCue and now there is KeyClu, too: Simple and handy overview of all shortcuts for any application. Easy to use, just press ⌘ twice and hold to see the list.
- 🏝 Return to Monkey Island was released for iOS.
- 🟨 I mentioned Gun Trails last week, and I really should have watched the video Gun Trails - Playdate gameplay + impressions before. Then I would have definitely bought an iced coffee ...
- 🎣 For some reason, I spent quite a bit of time playing Ridiculous Fishing EX on Apple Arcade.
- 📺 Started watching Silo together with my wife. Like it so far.
